Abstract

Background: Choking is a condition where the airway is blocked by a foreign object that can cause difficulty breathing and lack of oxygen. Toddlers are at risk of choking because they are in the oral and exploration stage. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of education using educational media on parental knowledge, attitudes, and skills in handling choking in toddlers. Methods: This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-post test approach. The research location was Posyandu ILP Leo Klampok, Jl. Halmahera No. 111, Klampok Village, Blitar City. The population in this study were 35 parents who had toddlers during the 3-day study period. The sample consisted of 35 parents of toddlers using a total sampling technique. The research instruments were knowledge and attitude questionnaires and skill observation sheets. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: Before being given education, most parents had low levels of knowledge, attitudes, and skills in handling choking in toddlers. After being given education using educational media, there was a significant increase in parental knowledge, attitudes, and skills. The statistical test results showed that education using animated media was effective in improving parents' knowledge, attitudes, and skills in handling choking in toddlers, with a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05). Conclusion: Education using educational media was effective in improving parents' knowledge, attitudes, and skills in handling choking in toddlers
